Dental Implants

If you have missing teeth or will have some soon, dental implants are the best way to replace them. This proven method of tooth replacement will give you teeth that are permanent and they will act like your natural teeth. You will not have to worry about your teeth slipping anymore, which can be embarrassing when you are trying to eat or talk.

Besides being the closest thing to your natural teeth, getting dental implants from Champion Dental also has another advantage. When you are missing teeth, the bone under that tooth becomes partially reabsorbed into your body. This can happen rather fast, possibly amounting to a reduction of 25 percent just within the first year. A dental implant will help to prevent that bone reabsorption. No other tooth replacement system can do this.

Dental Bridges Cost and Procedure

Single Tooth Implant

Tooth implants are made of titanium or zirconium and they look like a screw. They act as the tooth roots. The implants are screwed directly into your jawbone and may be installed as soon as you have a tooth extraction.

As it heals, the bone will attach to this biocompatible material which will securely anchor it. The healing will take place over a three-to-six month period but may sometimes take up to nine months. Some dentists will provide an abutment and a dental crown on the dental implant right away, but some will wait until it is healed.

A tooth implant can be used to replace a single tooth. The process does not involve modifying any other teeth. After it has healed, your new tooth will look like a real tooth, and it will also act like one – letting you eat and talk naturally. You may even forget that it is not real.

Because the bone under a tooth that has been missing for some time will be partially absorbed into your body, it will likely need to be built back up to the height it used to be before a dental implant can be installed. This will require bone graft surgery and possibly gum graft surgery.

If your missing teeth are not side-by-side, dental implants can be used for each one. In some cases, where the bone width is not wide enough, mini dental implants may be used, but they are not as strong as full-sized implants.

Multiple Teeth Implants

When you have two or more teeth that are either missing or will be extracted soon, you can get multiple teeth implants. These dental implants will act as supports for dental bridges. They will do the same thing as a crown-supported bridge. This ensures that they will not be moveable.

For a short dental bridge, you will only need two dental implants – one at each end. For a longer one of five or more missing teeth, you may need three.

If you are missing several teeth, you have surely noticed that it makes chewing more difficult and it is likely affecting your speech. You are also losing jawbone, and it will soon be affecting your smile and make you look older. Dental implants from Champion Dental can stop and even reverse that process, helping you to look younger and restore your smile.

Because the bridge and crowns that go on it need to be made in a lab, the dentist will place healing caps on the implants until they are healed. When the bridge is ready, the healing caps will be removed and the bridge will be installed.

Dental crowns can still suffer from decay. Decay can get under the crown. If that occurs, you will lose the bridge. A dental implant cannot develop a cavity and it will not rust. This means that they can last a lifetime. Good oral care is still needed because gum disease can cause them to fail.

All on 4 Dental Implants

The all on four dental implant system is a great way to have all your teeth replaced. This popular system of teeth replacement places all your teeth in the upper or lower arch being on just four dental implants. This will not only give you fewer places that need healing, but it also helps keep the cost down.

The advantage of the all on four dental implants system is that it enables you to get your dental implants and teeth quickly – usually on the same day. The teeth you get right after the implants are placed will be temporary ones, but you will get the permanent set later. This also lets you walk out of the office right after your implants are surgically installed with a set of teeth that look good.

Another benefit of this system is that it is not necessary to have a bone graft even if your jaw bone has receded. This is because the periodontist will angle the back two dental implants to take advantage of bone that is already present. The angle also enables you to get usable teeth on the same day. You no longer have to wait months after a bone graft to finally get your teeth.

If you still have teeth in your mouth, they will need to be extracted. The all-on-four system can still be installed on the same day as the extractions.

Dental implants are highly developed tools that enable you to get stable teeth that do not shift or slide when you talk or eat. They are also successful about 95 percent of the time.

Implant Retained Dentures

Another option you can get when you do not have any teeth or are going to have them all removed is to get implant retained dentures. Regular dentures rest directly on your gums and can irritate them. Implant retained dentures rest partially on the implants and partially on the gums. This system may work with your current dentures, or you can get new ones that are stronger and custom-made for your mouth.

This tooth replacement system gives you the advantage of choosing between fixed dentures and removable dentures. The dentist may suggest that you would be better off with one type rather than the other. Removable dentures can be easily removed at night for cleaning or when you sleep. Fixed implant supported dentures can be cleaned the same way you would care for your teeth.

Both types will not slip when you talk or eat because they are firmly held in place either by the implants or by snaps. They also will enable you to eat more of what you want. If they are made for you, they will be stronger than regular dentures and can be expected to last at least 10 years.

When you have been wearing dentures for some time, you know that you have to have them readjusted every so often because your jawbone continues to shrink. This also makes you look older. Dental implants will help to prevent bone loss, enabling you to retain more bone height – and a more youthful look.

Candidates for dental implants need to meet several basic qualifications before they can receive the implants. The gums need to be healthy and free of gum disease. Depending on the type of dental implants you need, you also need to have sufficient bone present that will be able to support the implant. A third requirement is that you need to have already developed a healthy program of caring for your teeth because, without it, gum disease can cause them to fail. You also cannot be a smoker because it will slow healing and may cause failure.

Dental implants continue to be the best way to replace missing teeth. The friendly dentists at Champion Dental can answer all your questions about them as well as give you the types of dental implants you need for a great smile.
